A 14‑year‑old girl was struck by an SKM S1 train at Warsaw Gocław station on October 13, suffering injuries and prompting service disruptions.
Incident Details
At about 11:40 a.m. on Monday, 13 October, a severe incident occurred at PKP Warsaw Gocław station involving a pedestrian and an SKM S1 train heading toward Otwock. A 14‑year‑old girl plunged from the platform onto the train track and was struck by the entering train.
Emergency Response
The victim was extricated from the scene and transported to a hospital with her injuries. Medical rescue personnel attended to her and she was admitted for treatment. Police are conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances and the motives of the pedestrian.
Service Disruptions
The accident forced a suspension of traffic on one track; the second track remained in use as a passing track. Delays reached up to 45 minutes, with possible cancellations and alterations to some services on the SKM S1 and Koleje Mazowieckie lines.
Infrastructure Manager Comments
Infrastructure manager officials noted that the impact occurred outside the designated crossings near the Warsaw Gocław stop. Consequently, trains on one track were halted, and from 14:00 the schedule on the Warsaw Wschodnia – Warsaw Wawer segment was restored.
Commuter Compensation Measures
To mitigate the inconvenience, mutual honoring of KM and ZTM tickets was introduced on the Warsaw Wschodnia–Otwock route for both directions from 12:30 to 16:00. Full restoration of the timetable began after 14:30.
