At a Cairo peace summit on Monday, President Donald Trump publicly praised Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, calling him an outstanding leader and promising full support for his future elections.
Trump Praises Orbán During Cairo Summit
At the Cairo peace summit, President Donald Trump publicly praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, declaring that he was “fantastic” and that the United States would back him fully. Trump noted that he had supported Orbán in his recent election, where the Prime Minister won by a 28‑point margin, and expressed confidence that Orbán would succeed again. He also acknowledged that the U.S. had many other political allies, yet singled Orbán out as a standout leader.
Orbán Acknowledges Trump’s Role on Social Media
On the platform X, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán praised President Trump for his part in restoring peace in the Middle East. He claimed that the President’s actions had led to “the weapons quieting, hostages being freed, and a long‑awaited peace.” Orbán called on Europe to follow Trump’s example and urged that negotiations are essential for peace, echoing his long‑standing opposition to Russian sanctions.
Cairo Declaration on Gaza Peace Signed
On Monday, the United States, Egypt, Turkey and Qatar signed a declaration in Egypt pledging support for peace in Gaza. The same day, Hamas released all living Israeli hostages and Israel freed Palestinian prisoners. President Trump claimed that a peace prevailed in the Middle East and that the Gaza war had ended, noting that humanitarian aid—hundreds of trucks loaded with food, medicine and other necessities—was already arriving on the ground.
Limited Optimism; Delegations Absent
Despite the announcement, Middle Eastern leaders expressed caution, noting that the four‑country document offers only a framework of guarantees rather than concrete commitments. The declaration also urged faster humanitarian assistance and emphasized the necessity to begin talks on Gaza’s future—issues still unresolved. Importantly, the summit did not include representatives from Israel or Hamas.
