Polish Law and Justice Party MP Łukasz Mejza was stopped by police on the S3 expressway for driving 200 km/h and refused a fine, citing parliamentary immunity.
Police Stop and Speeding Charge
On Tuesday, before noon, RMF FM reported that police on the S3 expressway stopped a BMW driven by MP Łukasz Mejza, who was traveling at 200 km/h.
Parliamentary Immunity and the Fine
Police offered him a 2,500‑zł fine, but Mejza refused, citing his parliamentary immunity. Officials are likely to file a request to punish him, initiating a Sejm procedure to lift his immunity.
Legal Proceedings and Immunity Request
In late January, Mejza was questioned in Zielona Góra, where he faced 11 criminal charges for concealing information in his financial disclosures, including hiding private loans—punishable by six months to eight years in prison. The prosecutor’s office filed a request with the Sejm to lift his immunity, which Mejza waived in early December 2024 ahead of a vote on the matter.
Ethics Committee Reprimand
The previous week, the Sejm Ethics Committee issued a reprimand to Mejza for his conduct toward Senator Władysław Tyszkiewicz in a parliamentary restaurant in April. Mejza claimed he was provoked, but he did not attend the committee meeting to explain his actions.
