The Regional Court in Ostrołęka confirmed the sentence of eight years imprisonment imposed on Robert K., 35, for causing a fatal road accident near Nowa Grabównica on September 17, 2024. The court also enforced a lifetime ban on driving and ordered a payment of 8,000 zloty to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post‑Penitentiary Aid, with an additional 10,000 zloty contribution.

Fatal crash near Nowa Grabównica on Sept. 17, 2024

At approximately 10 p.m. on September 17, 2024, a Peugeot on National Road No. 50 near Nowa Grabównica, Ostrołęka County, collided, injuring a 67‑year‑old passenger. The driver fled the scene before police and rescue teams arrived, and the passenger was rushed to a hospital.

Police respond; driver flees

Upon receiving reports from the Ostrowi Mazowieckie Police Command, police, firefighters, and medical rescue teams took the scene. They found only the passenger, a resident of Ostrołęka County. The driver escaped before any assistance could arrive. The passenger suffered serious head and brain injuries.

Investigation finds driving negligence

Investigations determined that the driver had failed to adjust speed to road conditions, collided off the road into a ditch and struck a tree. Testimony indicated that the vehicle left the right side of the road, fell into a ravine, and contacted a tree. This conduct constituted a breach of due care.

Arrest and blood‑alcohol evidence

That same day, police in Ostrowi Mazowieckie apprehended the 34‑year‑old driver. A blood alcohol examination revealed a concentration exceeding 50 mg per 100 mL, indicating more than one standard drink per hour. The suspect admitted to the charges and already possessed a lifetime court‑ordered ban on Category B driving. He was placed in temporary detention.

Final sentencing and appeal denial

On April 2, 2025, the District Court in Ostrowi Mazowieckie sentenced Robert K. to a cumulative eight years imprisonment, imposed a lifetime ban on all motor vehicle driving, mandated an 8,000‑zloty payment to the victims’ fund and a 10,000‑zloty contribution to the same fund, and dismissed the defendant’s appeal. The Regional Court in Ostrołęka subsequently affirmed the verdict.
