President Nawrocki Hails Hołownia, Claims He Would Be a Better US Ambassador

Polish President Karol Nawrocki declared on Monday that former MP Szymon Hołownia would make a better ambassador to the United States than current envoy Bogdan Klich.

Karol Nawrocki on Szymon Hołowni: Better Candidate than Mr Klich

Certainly, Parliament Marshal Szymon Hołownia would be a better candidate for US ambassador than the current ambassador, Mr. Klich. Surely none of us have any doubts, because Mr. Klich is not fulfilling his diplomatic mission in the way that Poles and Poland would expect – said President Karol Nawrocki on Monday when questioned by journalists about media reports on the parliament marshal’s future political career.

Unofficial: Szymon Hołownia Expressed Desire to Be Ambassador

Regarding Szymon Hołownia’s desire to take the ambassadorial post in the United States, journalist Wojciech Szacki from “Polityka” spoke about it on the program “Dzieje się!”. It would be a “Plan B” if Hołownia were unable to acquire the position of UN High Commissioner for Refugees. These details were also unofficially confirmed by “Gazeta Wyborcza”. However, everything points to the fact that moving the current marshal overseas is not a likely scenario. “Hołownia does not have the support of Prime Minister Donald Tusk or the foreign minister Radosław Sikorski”, says “GW”. Hołownia has not yet commented on these reports. In November, the politician will leave his role as Marshal of the Sejm, and according to the coalition agreement his successor should be co‑chairman of the New Left, Włodzimierz Czarzasty. Hołownia is expected to become vice‑marshal.

Mr Klich Will Not Gain My Acceptance

Currently, Bogdan Klich serves as chargé d’affaires in Washington. However, President Andrzej Duda did not sign the ambassadorial nomination of Klich, nor does the current president intend to do so. “He does not perform any work suitable for the Polish state, is unable to represent Poland, and has insulted the President of the United States, Donald Trump”, President Nawrocki said in July, still as the acting president, indicating that neither Klich nor Schnepf (the candidate for ambassador to Italy) will receive his approval.
