Prosecutor Reveals New Charges in 44‑Year‑Old’s PO Office Fire‑Attempt

A 44‑year‑old man faced court on October 21 after trying to ignite the Polish United Workers’ Party headquarters in Warsaw, with prosecutors laying two fresh accusations.

Charged for PO Office Attempted Fire

The 44‑year‑old suspect was brought before the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, 21 October. He immediately heard two charges: first, that he posed a direct danger by throwing a bottle containing liquid, then attempting to set it on fire after the bottle shattered. Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba said the act was classified as hooligan misconduct, carrying a potential sentence of six months to eight years’ imprisonment. Skiba added that “the penalty could be harsher” because the offence is a hooligan offence.

Second Accusation: Attempted Assault on Witness

The second charge involves an attempt to assault a witness. The suspect allegedly threw glass shards at an intervening witness who “kicked, pushed, and tried to prevent him from igniting the spilled substance.” This offence could bring a fine, a restriction of liberty, or up to two years of imprisonment.

Suspect’s Confessions About Donald Tusk

When questioned, Krzysztof B. denied committing the alleged acts and declined to testify about the attack itself. He did, however, submit a two‑page statement detailing his life’s history and confirming his residency on Wiejska Street. The suspect was surprised to find a coffee shop there, believing it was solely the headquarters of a political party. He repeatedly mentioned the name and surname of the current Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, in the context of “indicating his past relationship with certain people.” Investigators find no indication that his statements were driven by personal motive.

Prosecutor Seeks Three‑Month Detention

The Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office has requested a temporary arrest of the 44‑year‑old for a period of three months. Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba cited the severity of the potential sentence, fear of flight, and the danger of a serious crime against the life and health of others. A forensic‑psychiatric examination of the suspect will also be conducted.

Suspect Currently on Medical Leave

The suspect is presently on medical leave (L4) from work.
