Highland Businessman Arrested for Grand Theft, Allegedly Son of Former PiS Politician

A 41‑year‑old businessman from Podhale was detained on October 16 for grand theft, with police seizing construction equipment worth 750,000 PLN and a Ferrari.

Police Operation in Podhale

Polish police from the Kraków regional headquarters launched a widespread sweep on October 16, deploying 60 officers across Lesser Poland. The operation resulted in the seizure of construction equipment valued at 750,000 PLN and the temporary arrest of a local businessman for three months. The detainee faces an intentional grand theft charge carrying up to 10 years in prison.

During the raid at the company’s headquarters, authorities also discovered a luxury Ferrari worth more than one million PLN, which was secured pending potential future penalties. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków‑Prądnik is also handling the investigation.

Business and Family Background

The detainee, Tomasz K., hails from the prominent K family of Podhale, which operates a capital group involved in construction, passenger transport, and a large driver‑training centre. The group is currently overseen by two brothers: the elder, responsible for overall coordination, and the younger, supervising the construction sector.

Police had planned to arrest both brothers on October 16, but the elder managed to learn of the planned ambush and fled. He is suspected of leaving the country, and an arrest warrant is expected to be issued soon.

Connection to Former PiS Politician

According to the portal, the 41‑year‑old arrested businessman is the son of a well‑known former local PiS politician. His father served two terms on the Nagrowatka County board and ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Nowy Targ in 2010 under PiS. He founded a driver‑training centre in 1988, which later became the seed of the family’s capital group.

His father also directed the Nowy Targ branch of PZU and served on the supervisory board of Podhale Geothermal during the early PiS government.
