Two Bishops Pass Away on Same Day; Diocese in Mourning

Two bishops of the Kielce diocese, the 41‑year‑old Father Marcin Bajer and the 48‑year‑old Father Rafał Palacz, died on Friday, October 24, sparking official mourning.

Death of Two Bishops

On Friday, October 24, the Kielce Diocese announced the deaths of two of its clergy: the 41‑year‑old Father Marcin Bajer, chaplain of the St. Father Raphael Hospital in Proszowice, and the 48‑year‑old Father Rafał Palacz, a vicar of the Parish of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sokolniki. Both had been serving for 14 and 21 years respectively.

Funeral Services

A memorial Mass led by Bishop Andrzej Kaleta is scheduled for Monday, October 27 at 3 p.m. in the parish church of Proszowice, followed by a burial on Tuesday, October 28 at noon in St. Jadwiga of Poland Church in Lipnik under the auspices of Bishop Jan Piotrowski.

Parish Response

The most recent announcement, posted on the parish’s Facebook page, urges the faithful to join an evening Rosary and prayer for the soul of Father Palacz. The parish has not yet fixed a funeral date and disclosed no causes of death.
