Norway’s Defence Minister Claims Putin Prepares Russia for War with NATO

Minister Tore Sandvik told the British newspaper The Telegraph that Kremlin forces are gathering nuclear weapons and submarine missile systems in the Arctic range, implying that the Russian government is readying the country for a conflict with NATO.

According to Sandvik, these actions are part of a broader preparation for war, as the Kremlin continues to strengthen its military posture against the alliance.

Strategic Significance of the Kola Peninsula for Russia

Norwegian officials observed increased Russian military activity in the region of the Kola Peninsula, home to one of the world’s largest nuclear warhead arsenals.

Sandvik highlighted that the weapon stockpiles on the peninsula are aimed not only at Norway but also at the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.

Russia Testing New Weapons

Sandvik said Russia is currently testing new weapon types, including hypersonic missiles, nuclear‑powered torpedoes, and nuclear warheads.

He claimed the Northern Fleet is serving as a “test area for new, powerful weapons and the expansion of Putin’s nuclear capability.”

Test of the Buriev-Strategic Missile

On Sunday, October 26, Vladimir Putin announced a successful test of the Buriev-Strategic nuclear manoeuvring missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Norwegian intelligence chief Nils Andreas Stensoenes confirmed that the test took place on Novaya Zemlya, a Russian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.
