PiS leadership is rattled as it announces that Elżbieta Witek will head the party’s inquiry into the sale of a state farm plot tied to the CPK project in Poland.
Sale of CPK Plot Sparks Controversy
Wirtualna Polska reported that during PiS’s rule, a 160‑hectare plot earmarked for CPK infrastructure was sold to private firm Dawtona for just under 23 million zlotys, despite expectations of a 400‑million‑zloty valuation. The plot was owned by the National Agricultural Support Center (KOWR) and was intended for railway construction as part of the CPK project.
Jarosław Kaczyński has suspended MPs while the sale’s legality is investigated, declaring the matter “inexorably unresolved” and demanding transparent explanations from all parties involved.
Elżbieta Witek to Lead PiS Inquiry
PiS will hear explanations from suspended MPs Robert Telus and Rafał Romanowski, with Elżbieta Witek appointed to head the inquiry. Her appointment has sparked strong emotions owing to her previous parliamentary conduct that benefited PiS.
The party’s spokesperson asserts the team will operate “at its own pace” and will act once sufficient information is available, highlighting alleged mishandling by government bodies under Tusk’s leadership.
Other committee members are expected to include MP Waldemar Andzel and former Minister of Agriculture Anna Gembicka, who will present the party’s position after case analysis.
Statements from Suspended MPs
Former Agriculture Minister Robert Telus posted on X that he was unaware of the sale and opposed the Mercosur agreement, stating he will remain an opponent of state land sales and vows to defend Polish agriculture.
Former Deputy Agriculture Minister Rafał Romanowski expressed that he accepted Kaczyński’s suspension decision with humility, pledged cooperation with investigative bodies, and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting state land as a national strategic resource.
