Seven Companies Bid to Draft 1.4‑Km Tram Route with Tunnel and Underground Stops

Seven firms have submitted bids to prepare the design for a 1.4‑km tram line, including a 900‑m tunnel and two underground stops, linking Kasprzaka Street in Wola to Warszawa Zachodnia Station.

Tender Overview

Seven companies entered the tender to deliver the full engineering and documentation package for the new tram line, covering a total of about 1.4 km, of which 900 m will run in tunnel.

The awarded budget is 20.312 million PLN gross, while the lowest bid presented was 14.396 million PLN.

Only five of the seven offers fell within the budget ceiling, with Databout submitting the lowest proposal.

Design Scope and Approval Process

The contract requires the preparation of three route variants, construction and execution plans, and the acquisition of all necessary administrative decisions, including environmental assessments.

Documentation will also allow for technical support options during the bid for construction works and authorship supervision.

The designer has a 43‑month window from contract signing to provide the final deliverables.

Route and Tunnel Configuration

The new segment will enter the existing tunnel beneath Warszawa Zachodnia Station, then exit into a new tunnel running along Prądzyńskiego and Krzyżanowskiego streets.

Ramps at the tunnel exit are still under consideration, with the option to locate it either near Prądzyńskiego or Krzyżanowskiego.

The connection to Kasprzaka Street will be situated close to the “Szpital Wolski” stop.

Underground and Overground Stops

Three new stop complexes are planned: an underground stop at the platform of Station 9, another underground stop near Tunelowa Street, and a third stop that may be either surface‑level or underground at Prądzyńskiego, depending on the chosen variant.

Existing transfer node at Kasprzaka Street will be expanded to accommodate increased traffic.

Construction Timeline and Funding

The construction of the defined section, once the designer is selected, can commence after the design phase and securing of funds, tentatively scheduled after 2030.

Meanwhile, the underground stop at West Station is already under construction and is expected to open in the second half of 2026.

Strategic Significance for City Transport

The new line will serve as the missing link of a ring route connecting Wola, Ochota, Mokotów, and Wilanów, thereby reducing journeys that currently require passage through the city centre.

Completion of the tunnel stops will facilitate smoother transfers between rail and tram services at Warszawa Zachodnia.
