Project Overview
Rembertów’s new viaduct over Chełmżyńska Street opened to traffic today, with first vehicles crossing at about 9:30 a.m., ending long queues at the former railway crossing and improving communication on Warsaw’s right-bank side.
Construction Details
The viaduct stretches 140 m over the Warsaw West–Terespol rail line, linking the southern intersection of Chełmżyńska and Stelmachów with a north‑side roundabout. The full road layout, including access roads, measures roughly 700 m.
Opening Ceremony
City officials and Warsaw’s mayor officially opened the bridge; the contractor was Intop Warsaw. Works began in July 2024 and were completed two months ahead of the 20‑month contract, with finishing touches scheduled for the coming weeks.
Design Features
The structure has a single lane with two directions, an eastern bicycle lane and sidewalk, a western sidewalk, a northern bus bay with stop, and ramps and elevators for people with reduced mobility.
Funding and Impact
The project cost about 68.5 million PLN and was jointly financed by Warsaw and PKP Polish Lines, supported in part by the FEnIKS program. Warsaw Public Transport will update bus routes, with line 145 returning to a fixed route and schedules for lines 225 and N24 revised. The existing railway crossing on Chełmżyńska will ultimately be closed once the viaduct is operational.
