Sejm Strips Ziobro of Immunity

On Friday, 7 November, the Polish Sejm voted 27‑to‑0 to lift the immunity of Zbigniew Ziobro, the Justice Minister.

The court has charged Ziobro with 26 offences, including abuse of power, neglect of duties and leading an organised criminal group.

Political Reaction

Various politicians praised the decision, citing a return of “justice and legality” and calling it the “end of Ziobro”.

Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said it was “time for justice and law; Ziobro without immunity.” Parliamentary leaders highlighted that the full case will proceed in court.

Statements from Public Figures

Marcin Kierwiński, head of MSWiA, declared the vote a triumph of “human decency and honesty”.

Katarzyna Kotula wrote that the “27:0” result means Ziobro lost his immunity. NIK head Marian Banaś said God “won’t be rushed” and that karma will return to all who have erred.

Tusk’s Comment and Response

Former PM Donald Tusk posted on social media that law must always be law and justice must be justice.

Marcin Romanowski, who fled to Hungary, replied that such a scenario will happen “in at most two years” and warned the Prime Minister that he would not see the same law as perceived on 13 December by criminal conspirators.

Jan Kantak threatened that the PI in PiS would experience this firsthand, calling for resilience among supporters.
