A 39‑year‑old man attacked a patrol officer with a knife near Pobiedziska on Sunday, was shot dead by a second officer, and the wounded officer recovered the same day.
Incident Overview
On the morning of Monday, November 10, a press office of the Wielkopolskie police detailed an event that took place on Sunday, November 9, in Pobiedziska. Residents reported that a ventriloquist‑faced man had broken into a home and the situation was deemed serious enough to request police intervention. The 112 call was forwarded to emergency services, so paramedics arrived in tandem with the police.
Attack on Officer
The officer suffered knife wounds. “The blow was so strong that the knife broke,” the officer said. The 39‑year‑old man stabbed her in the back of the head and also struck her in the chest. The officer was wearing a body‑armor vest, which likely prevented severe injuries. She was rushed to hospital, sutured, and could return home the same day.
Gunfight and Fatality
Assistant Inspector Andrzej Borowiak reported that the situation was dynamic and that the officer accompanying the first officer fired a shot. The 39‑year‑old man died at the scene. “We are cooperating with the prosecutor’s office,” he added. No statements have yet been made about the conduct of the officers. Borowiak did not disclose how many shots were fired.
Perpetrator Profile
The press officer answered that the attacker was a resident of Gniezno, well known to the neighbors, who maintained social contacts. He had a previous criminal record, and was listed in legal registers in the past.
