KGB Attempts Recruitment in Poland

Polish prosecutors announced an investigation following claims that KGB agents sent threatening and bribery attempts to employees of the National Anti-Crisis Board (NZA). The agents alleged they could win over Belarusian opposition members by starting from “clean slate” tactics and promised to provide information on the Belarusian diaspora in Poland.

Families of Opposition Members are Threatened

The NZA chief, Paweł Łatuszka, said the KGB’s intimidation extended to relatives of opposition figures, using threats, bribery tactics, physical intimidation, and psychological pressure against families in Belarus. As a result, some family members had to be evacuated.

What Is the National Anti-Crisis Board?

The NZA comprises experts and professionals tasked with advancing the goals of the Belarusian democratic movement. Its duties include crafting sanctions against the Lukashenko regime, pursuing accountability for crimes against the nation, and preparing analyses and proposals on the state of democracy in Belarus. The organization was established in October 2020 in response to systematic repression of civil society and brutal suppression of peaceful protests.
