Former Orlen chief Daniel Obajtek threatened a ‘surprise’ ahead of a prosecutor‑office hearing scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, after a Tuesday news interview.
Polsat News Interview Highlights Obajtek’s Response
In a Tuesday broadcast on Polsat News, Daniel Obajtek was asked about a forthcoming prosecutor’s hearing. Host Bogdan Rymanowski noted that his absence could be seen by political opponents as a sign of cowardice.
Obajtek denied being a coward, saying, “Never a coward, you will see tomorrow,” and promised a “surprise” for viewers. He also emphasized that he would not hide anywhere.
Prosecutor’s Hearing Scheduled for November 12
The Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office summoned Obajtek for a hearing on Wednesday, November 12. The case concerns contracts between Orlen’s investigative services and a detective agency that allegedly spied on opposition politicians during his tenure.
European Parliament Immunity Lifted
The European Parliament withdrew Obajtek’s immunity at the request of the Polish attorney general. This request, filed months earlier by Adam Bodnar, was approved during the hearing period.
Investigation Claims Private Intent Behind Contracts
Prosecutors allege that the 393,600 PLN contracts, ostensibly for anti‑competition checks, were designed to serve Obajtek’s private interests and collect information on opposition politicians.
They argue the contracts had no real economic significance, were unrelated to company security, and constituted misuse of authority.
