Former MP Marcin Mastalerek accused Jarosław Kaczyński of damaging the Warsaw Independence March’s credibility by attending, saying the leader should not have appeared.
Mastalerek Criticizes Kaczyński’s Attendance
On RMF FM Marcin Mastalerek replied that he had not taken part in the Tuesday Independence March in Warsaw, stating that only Jarosław Kaczyński’s presence mattered. He said the incumbent president’s presence was “completely unbelievable.”
Kaczyński’s 2015 Conflict
Mastalerek recalled that in 2015 the Kaczyński administration had removed him from a list, offering him a co‑leadership role in the presidential campaign if he complied. He claimed the choice was straightforward: either the president’s terms or the MP’s.
President Nawrocki’s Rebuke
President Karol Nawrocki was called “in a full political atmosphere,” and it was “a real problem for Kaczyński that he is not an example for the government and the media.” The president’s criticism was that the absent leader’s presence had been ignored and that he was “completely unbelievable.”
Kaczyński’s Statements at the March
During the March, Kaczyński told TV Republika that he was “very satisfied” and that this was his second time attending. He said that amid internal and external threats, democracy and rule of law were being destroyed, and that Poland’s sovereignty was under threat. He urged that people of varying views still consider Poland important.
