Romanowski Accuses Żurek of Foreign Intelligence Activity

Former Polish deputy justice minister Marcin Romanowski lodged a criminal complaint against politician Waldemar Żurek on November 12, alleging he aided a foreign intelligence service through disinformation.

Indictment Filed on 12 November

Former Vice‑Minister Marcin Romanowski announced on X that he had formally reported Waldemar Żurek for suspected criminal activity under article 130, paragraph 9 of the Polish Penal Code on 12 November.

Alleged Involvement with Foreign Intelligence

Romanowski said the case concerns participation in activities of a foreign intelligence service through disinformation campaigns aimed at the Polish state structure.

Connections to Paweł Rubców

He cited possible contacts between Żurek and Paweł Rubców—also known as Pablo González—who is suspected of spying for the Russian GRU and was transferred to Russia in a 2024 prisoner exchange.

Political and Media Links

Romanowski pointed to Żurek’s role in recommending Tomasz Szmyd for the WSA and Szmyd’s ties to PiS MPs, as well as Rubców’s presence at a left‑wing election night and liberal media circles.

State‑Security Implications

He warned that Żurek propagates narratives aligned with Russian and Belarusian messaging, noting the “border 2021” incident and attacks on state institutions, and urged Poland to safeguard against influence operations.
