A Kremlin spokesman says Moscow has taken security measures and blames Europe’s militarism, while Ukrainian President Zelensky warns Russia could open a second front in Europe before the Ukraine war ends.
Kremlin spokesman warns of preparedness for conflict with Europe
In an interview with Life, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov said the Kremlin believes European powers are preparing for a possible armed clash with Russia and blamed Europe for militarism. He added that Russia has long understood the danger of war and has taken actions to secure its own safety.
He cited an October statement by President Putin warning the West of a swift response to actions threatening Russia, and held NATO responsible for rising tensions. The Kremlin did not mention Russia’s aggression in Ukraine or the hybrid war against Western countries.
Zelensky warns that Russia could open a second front in Europe
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Guardian interview that Russia may launch a second front in Europe before the war in Ukraine ends, describing this as part of a broader hybrid war against Europe and tests of how far it can push NATO states.
Zelensky added that many Europeans think Putin intends to occupy Ukraine first and then attack elsewhere, but he could pursue both objectives simultaneously. He criticized Russia’s failures on the Ukrainian front and linked them to sabotage attempts against NATO countries, citing drone incidents over Poland, Copenhagen, Brussels, and Munich.
