Robert Bąkiewicz Faces New Charges; Prosecution Expands Investigation

On Thursday, 13 November, Polish politician Robert Bąkiewicz appeared before prosecutors in Gorzów Wielkopolski, where he was presented with two additional charges in the expanding investigation.

Two New Charges Against Bąkiewicz

During his appearance on 13 November, the prosecutor’s office read Bąkiewicz two new accusations. The first concerns a post made on 3 July on the platform X, in which the politician allegedly accused officers of the Border Guard and the Military Gendarmerie, as well as journalists, of “selling and betraying Poland” and “playing a subservient role to German masters.” Prosecutors said these statements could degrade the standing of officers and journalists in public opinion and risk their loss of trust.

The second charge involves incitement of hatred on grounds of nationality, ethnicity and race. According to investigators, between 19 June and 18 July last year, Bąkiewicz posted online content that allegedly heightened animosity towards Germans and migrants.

Bąkiewicz Blames “Political Retribution”

After leaving the prosecutor’s office, Bąkiewicz declared his refusal to admit guilt, claiming that the proceedings are intentionally politicised. He accused the prosecutor of criminal conduct, misuse of authority, and of placing charges against him to manipulate the law.

Bąkiewicz also alleged that subordinates of “Żurka” and “Tusk” were attempting to intimidate him and the Border Defence movement. He warned that those responsible would face consequences, stating that he would “clear them all out.”

Five Charges and Border Proximity Ban

In total, Bąkiewicz now faces five charges. Several have been classified as hooliganism, raising the minimum penalty ceiling by 50 %. The most serious offences carry a potential sentence of up to three years imprisonment.

Police monitoring remains in effect: he must notify authorities when leaving his residence and is forbidden from approaching Polish‑German border crossings within a 1 km radius.
