Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek explained the refusal as a reaction to judicial changes initiated by the ruling PiS, referencing a 2021 case where 4 000 judges appealed to Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński to respect EU Court of Justice rulings. He also mentioned a second group of judges who had protested the envelope elections in 2020.
