Sikorski Calls Matecki a “Dead Skunk” After Online Dispute

On Sunday, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski sparked an online spat with politician Dariusz Matecki over alleged politicisation of a Regional International Debate Center meeting in Szczecin.

Sikorski’s Social‑Media Ferocity

In a post, Sikorski lambasted Matecki for questioning whether the Friday meeting of the Regional International Debate Center (RODM) in Szczecin was politicised. He claimed the event was organised by a PiS councilman who won the contest to run RODM, calling the outcome a “logical mistake” because procedure practices were unimaginable in the past.

He added that being attacked by Matecki was “like a dead skunk was thrown at a person,” underscoring his anger.

Matecki’s Sharply‑Worded Reply

Matecki countered with a tweet accusing Sikorski of being a “spiteful, anti‑Polish creature.” He also denied that any PiS councillor was a member of RODM in Szczecin, questioning why public funds were used to organise meetings involving key Conservatives (KO) figures such as MPs, councillors and the marshal.

Sikorski Clarifies the RODM Contest Outcome

In a follow‑up post, Sikorski revealed that the contest was won by the Eco‑Polish Association, whose chairman is PiS‑aligned Szczecin councillor Marek Chabior. He also credited Mr. Marek Podsiadło, a former OKW member affiliated with PiS, as the coordination lead, thanking them for organising the meeting efficiently.

Interpellation Submitted, Questions Raised

Matecki said he had already submitted an interpellation asking why meetings were organised across the country for loyal KO supporters with public Foreign Affairs Ministry funding, which was sent to RODM. He reminded Sikorski to reply “respectfully and within the statutory term.”

Regular RODM Discussions in Poland

Meetings with Sikorski on the state of Poland and global affairs take place at various Regional International Debate Centers under the banner “local debates, global solutions.” Recordings from past sessions are available on the Foreign Ministry’s official YouTube channel.
