On November 21, Łukasz Żak demanded an apology from prosecutor Katarzyna Niemiec‑Rudnicka on the trial of the September 2024 Łazienkowska Route crash.
Żak Accuses Prosecutor of Lying
During the November 21 hearing about a September 2024 crash on Łazienkowska Route, defendant Łukasz Żak demanded an apology from prosecutor Katarzyna Niemiec‑Rudnicka, accusing her of lying about “illegal information transfer” and possession of phones and drug‑related items in his cell.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant’s friend had tried to send illegal information to him via correspondence to the prison, and that phones and “grypsy” were found from which he allegedly requested delivery of illegal substances, including drugs.
Żak denied any mention of phones or text messages, claiming no evidence was collected, and demanded an apology. He also disputed allegations of drug dealing and said there was no proof of drug possession.
Żak Seeks to Leave Bail
During the same hearing, defense lawyer Izabela Sławińska filed a formal request to replace the current preventive measure of arrest with a financial bond, police supervision, or a country‑exit ban.
She argued that the defendant had shown cooperation from the beginning and that an attempt to impede proceedings was illogical, noting that after the crash he reported to German authorities.
Prosecutor Katarzyna Niemiec‑Rudnicka countered that fear of avoidance of criminal responsibility is justified, citing the high penalty of over 25 years, and the court stated it would not consider easing the arrest.
Accident on Łazienkowska Route
Łukasz Żak is charged with causing a fatal car accident on Łazienkowska Route, in which a 37‑year‑old man died, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and exceeding the speed limit.
Investigators report he was allegedly traveling at 80 km/h but was actually driving over 220 km/h at the time of the crash.
After the incident, he fled to Germany and was later apprehended at a hospital in Lubeca.
