On Sunday, December 7, Polish opposition leader Jarosław Kaczyński posted on social media, accusing former minister Jan Rokita of spreading falsehoods about EU reforms and demanding a reaction.
Kaczyński’s Social Media Retort
Jarosław Kaczyński issued a post on Sunday evening, stating that he usually stays silent about media lies but felt compelled to reply to Jan Rokita’s article. He warned that current EU processes are steering toward deep centralisation and that this proposed centralisation would be more dangerous for member states, especially Poland, than federalisation.
Rokita’s Critique of Poland’s EU Stance
In a 2021 opinion piece for the magazine “W Sieci”, Jan Rokita warned that the EU’s centralising agenda is concealed under the façade of federalism. He argued that Polish right‑wing leaders, notably Kaczyński, routinely use the terms “federalist” and “federalism” as political attacks, while true federalism aims to limit central power and preserve decentralisation.
Nawrocki’s Vision for the EU
Earlier this month, Karol Nawrocki visited Prague to present his concept of a united Europe, calling for the rejection of centralisation trends. He said that centralisation would weaken all member states except the two largest, erode national sovereignty, and threaten democratic institutions. Nawrocki also proposed abolishing the role of president of the European Council, insisting the position should belong to democratically elected leaders rather than bureaucrats dependent on a handful of great powers.
