Polish politician Grzegorz Braun filed a motion on Monday at 9 a.m. to disqualify Judge Marcin Brzostko in a Warsaw District Court case, citing European law.
Motion and Court Proceedings
The motion was lodged before the Warsaw Praga-Południe District Court at 9 a.m. on Monday. Braun requested that Judge Marcin Brzostko be disqualified from the case, arguing a conflict of interest.
Abrupt European Court Reference
During the proceedings Braun abruptly cited European jurisprudence to support his request, a claim later described as “absurd” by prosecutor Artur Wańdoch.
Prosecutor and Defenders’ Reactions
Prosecutor Wańdoch labeled the motion absurd, while judge‑in‑training Krzysztof Stępiński criticized Braun for citing European decisions in what he called a “sneaking” attempt to manipulate the verdict.
Protest Support
Supporters of Braun appeared at the court, declaring solidarity with his cause and forming a broad front of protest. Leaders from the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej and radical group Rodacy Kamraci were among the demonstrators.
Charges Filed Against Braun
In July, the Warsaw Praga district prosecutor filed a 17‑count indictment against Braun, covering incidents from March 2022 to 2023, including alleged assault on a public official and interference with a Holocaust lecture.
