Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Provides Explanation

On Thursday, December 11, spokesman Maciej Wewiór issued a brief statement regarding the organization of President Karol Nawrocki’s visit to Latvia. He said the host state supplied transportation, dismissed rumors of a “sensational” mishap, and noted the photo was taken the previous afternoon. Wewiór added that it was raining continuously in Latvia, “there is no car wash at Riga airport,” and that he hopes the president is satisfied with the visit’s conduct, to which the embassy is committed.

Accusations Against Government

Wewiór posted photographs showing the car and presidential aircraft. The images were labeled as the vehicle the Polish Embassy in Riga sent to the airport to pick up the president for his official state visit. Commenters questioned whether the Polish Embassy, the host nation, or the visiting party was responsible for the transport. An internet user acknowledged that the host country handled it.

Dispute Over Transfer of MiG‑29s to Ukraine

The Palace of the President and the government are at odds over reports that Poland considered transferring MiG‑29 fighter jets to Ukraine. The Palace claims the transfer plan was not discussed with President Nawrocki, while the government maintains that palace representatives were involved in the talks. On Wednesday, Minister of International Affairs Marcin Przydacz told reporters that the president learned of the transfer plan from media reports, whereas on Thursday, Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz stated that presidential aides participated in discussions about the transfer, with precise dates confirmed by meeting minutes. The deputy prime minister rebutted allegations of a lack of information, accusing certain advisors of increasingly relying on falsehoods.
