“We had a long and substantive conversation with the U.S. President Donald Trump. We started with face‑to‑face talks before inviting European leaders to join. The discussion lasted more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral talk with Mr Trump,” said the Ukrainian president on Saturday morning. “Ukraine affirms its readiness to pursue all efforts for peace. President Trump informed us of his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of that discussion. It is crucial that the strength of America has influence on the situation’s development. We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting among Ukraine, the United States and Russia. Ukraine stresses that key issues can be discussed at the leadership level, and the trilateral format is appropriate,” he added.

The Alaska summit did not bring a breakthrough. Details of Donald Trump’s conversation with Vladimir Putin remain unknown. The meeting lasted shorter than planned, and the anticipated shared lunch did not occur. The summit began with a warm airport welcome. American media noted that the Russian dictator was received with honors akin to a friendly state leader, not a country that has maintained very cold relations with Washington for many years. After about three hours of discussion, the session ended. At the press conference, the leaders only issued their own statements. Neither declared a breakthrough on suspending weapons in the war in Ukraine.
