On 11 December, Adam Szłapka, the government’s spokesperson, announced that Robert Bąkiewicz and the Rota Marszu Niepodległości association must repay more than 383,000 PLN. He cited a review that uncovered many irregularities, including lack of service evidence, missing payment documentation and a fictitious office.
Bąkiewicz Accused of Fraudulent Grant Use
Bąkiewicz allegedly spent government funding over several years, leaving the association with empty accounts, debts and significant accounting neglect. According to statements, the team led by Bartosz Malewski managed to clean up the mess and settle debts over a two‑year period.
Krzysztof Bosak Criticizes Association
Conservative MP Krzysztof Bosak said he and his party had repeatedly warned about Bąkiewicz’s conduct. He described a “carousel” of grant disbursements involving entities funded by government‑related sources, ultimately leading to a comprehensive report to prosecutors that outlined about a dozen legal violations.
Prosecutor Charges Bąkiewicz on Five Counts
On Wednesday, Bąkiewicz was questioned at the Gorzów police prosecutor’s office, where he faces five charges. The most serious charge could carry up to ten years in prison, including allegations of defamation of public officials, inciting nationality, ethnic and racial hatred, and other offenses. Preventive measures, including police supervision and a ban from approaching Polish‑German border crossings within one kilometre, have been imposed.
