The red carpet rolled out in front of Putin’s plane at the Alaska summit ignited intense backlash from journalists and politicians, prompting protests over the grandiose gesture toward a Russian war criminal.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin’s Meeting
The Alaska summit of the US and Russia produced no breakthrough. It began with a warm welcome at the airport, with American media noting how the Russian dictator was received with honors befitting a friendly state leader, not a nation that has remained in very cold relations with Washington for years. The meeting itself lasted shorter than planned. The anticipated joint lunch of the delegations did not occur. After about three hours the talks concluded. During the press conference both leaders only delivered their statements, announcing no decisions related to suspending weapons in the Ukraine war.
“Trump’s Subservience Display to Putin”
“Applause, honors, red carpet, and a shared limousine for a war criminal. Mockery, humiliation, and intimidation of the attacked country’s leader, where Russians murder, rape, and steal refrigerators. Horror to the extreme limits” – wrote Patryk Michalski of Wp.pl.
Putin Appears Ignorant of a Journalist’s Question on Ending Civilian Killings…
Journalist Mateusz Lachowski wrote, “The handshakes with the war criminal, applause, and red carpet give me gross discomfort. The only thing missing is Netanyahu.”
Red Carpet, Applause for Putin, Planes on Ground and in the Air, Shared Limousine Journey Successive, Trump’s Subservience Demonstration Demoralizing
Onet investigative journalist Marcin Wyrwał described the scene: “The display of subservience by Trump before Putin was simply demoralizing – hard to find any other word.”
Soldiers Unfolding a Red Carpet in Front of Putin’s Plane. They Are Seen in Front of the Stairs. Looks Weak
RMF FM correspondent in the USA, Paweł Żuchowski, remarked: “It looks weak.”
With Little Confirmation, I Hope the Meeting’s Symbol Becomes the B‑2 Bomber (used in Iran) Flying Above Trump and Putin’s Heads, Not American Soldiers on Knees Unfolding a Red Carpet in Front of the Russian Plane. It Was a Stick (Bomber), There Were More Carrots (Red Carpet, Joint Ride in the “Best” or Lack of Questions at the Press Conference). Above All, There Was Great Silence – especially regarding peace in Ukraine. Putin Rather Said How Close the USA and Russia Are, Not Just Geographically, That’s Why the Alaska Symposium is Symbolic”
Zero Channel’s Arleta Bojke commented: “The red carpet at the Alaska meeting is symbolic of the blood spilled by Ukrainians, of pain and despair of mothers who lost their children, a symbol of hatred and the Russian boots.”
“Imagine an American soldier laying a red carpet before the war criminal Putin if the president were J. Biden?”
Jarosław Makowski, publicist and former Katowice vice‑president (PO), wrote.
“American soldiers stretching a red carpet before Putin were not invented by the Kremlin. Unfortunately. Unfortunately for Ukraine, for Poland, for Europe. The Commander‑in‑Chief humiliated the strongest army in the world”
New Left MP Anita Kucharska‑Dziedzic commented.
“Red Carpet Spread Before the Murderer. Repulsive Image. Domesticating Pure Evil. Putin Will Continue Killing. We Must Consistently Support Ukraine. We Must Rely on Ourself, the West, NATO. Nothing Is More Urgent Than a Secure Poland in a Strong Europe”
KO European Parliament member Michał Szczerba stated.
