European Leaders Issue Joint Statement After Alaska Summit – ‘We Are Ready’

European leaders released a joint statement following the Alaska summit, with Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk among the signatories.

European Leaders’ Statement After the Alaska Summit

Leaders welcomed President Trump’s efforts to halt the killing in Ukraine, to end Russia’s aggressive war, and to achieve fair and lasting peace – as quoted in the European Commission statement. European leaders pledged readiness to collaborate with Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky to organize a tripartite summit. “Ukraine must have ironclad security guarantees to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We proudly accept President Trump’s declaration that the United States is prepared to provide these guarantees. The Coalition of Favored Track stands ready to play an active role. No restrictions should be placed on Ukraine’s armed forces or its cooperation with third countries. Russia must not have a veto over Ukraine’s path to the EU and NATO.”

European Commission: Borders Cannot Be Altered by Force

“Decisions about Ukraine’s territory belong solely to Ukraine. International borders cannot be changed by force. Our support for Ukraine continues. We are determined to do more to sustain Ukraine’s strength, end fighting, and secure a fair and lasting peace.” While people in Ukraine continue to die, we are ready to press on Russia. We will keep tightening sanctions and expanding economic measures until a fair and lasting peace is achieved. Ukraine can rely on our unwavering solidarity in its pursuit of peace that protects the vital interests of Ukraine and Europe.”

Who Signed the Statement?

The statement was signed by President Emmanuel Macron of France, Premier Giorgia Meloni of Italy, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Antonio Costa, Chairman of the European Council.
