Polish Police Arrest Five in Illicit Opioid Trafficking Ring

Five people were arrested in Warsaw, Radom and Grójec on December 9 for running an illegal opioid and morphine‑based painkiller smuggling operation that operated across Masovia since mid‑2023.

Arrests Across Masovia

Five individuals aged 43‑53 were detained by police for their ties to the illegal trade of opioid painkillers. A 53‑year‑old physician from Grójec county was among those arrested.

Group’s Composition and Charges

The Economic Crime Department of the Radom Provincial Police Headquarters, with local prosecutors, investigated an organized gang that operated from mid‑2023 to November 2025 across Masovian Voivodeship, including Grójec, Radom and Warsaw, as well as other parts of Poland.

Perpetrators unlawfully obtained prescriptions and then sold the acquired medicinal products, which contain opioids and morphine. The case also involves falsification of prescription documentation.

On December 9, officers from the Economic Crime Department, assisted by colleagues from other units, carried out the arrests in several locations.

The arrests included a Warsaw couple (43 and 45), a 44‑year‑old supporter of a Warsaw football club, a 45‑year‑old man in Radom, and a 53‑year‑old doctor in Grójec. Searches recovered cash, drugs and medical supplies.

The operation involved the Central Counter‑terrorism Unit “BOA”.

Legal Proceedings and Potential Sentences

The Warsaw woman faced charges of leading an organized crime group, and all detainees were charged with participation in organized crime.

The 45‑year‑old faces up to 15 years in prison, while the others face up to 8 years. All were temporarily detained for three months.

The investigation is supervised by the First Investigative Division of the Radom District Prosecutor’s Office. The case is described as developmental.
