Archiwum X Solves 10‑Year‑Old Murder; Ukrainian Arrested in Czech Republic

Ten years after a 53‑year‑old’s brutal slashing in Mosina, Poland, Archiwum X reexamined evidence, leading to the arrest of a Ukrainian national in the Czech Republic.

Murder in Mosina, 2015

On the night of 17–18 July 2015, police in Mosina found the body of 53‑year‑old Zbigniew A. on the sidewalk near Pożegowska street. He had died from deep stab wounds on the neck. A metal key with a long spike, belonging to a car locksmith, was seized at the scene.

Initial Investigation Stalled

The investigation conducted shortly after the murder produced no progress. Authorities learned that the victim had been socialising with several people the day before, drinking alcohol in different parts of the city. One of the attendees was Witalij B., a Ukrainian national who was temporarily residing and working part‑time in Mosina. He denied any involvement, and the evidence at the time was insufficient to charge him. After his residence permit expired, he left Poland.

Archive X Reopens the Case

After a decade, investigators from Archive X revisited the case. They re‑examined the collected materials, including documentation, preserved traces and physical evidence. Their findings were forwarded to the District Prosecutor in Poznan, which prompted a renewal of the investigation.

Utilising new investigative techniques and expert opinions from forensic medicine and the criminalistics laboratory, the analysis of the evidence pointed to Witalij B. as a suspect.

Arrest in the Czech Republic

Witalij B. was located in the Czech Republic. Acting on a European Arrest Warrant, Czech authorities arrested him and transferred him to Poland. The District Prosecutor in Poznan charged him with murder. The court has placed the suspect in custody, and he faces a potential life sentence.
