At night a blaze broke out at the Lipiany police station, completely burning a patrol van and damaging the façade. Authorities detained a 33‑year‑old woman who is alleged to have acted in retaliation.
Fire at the Police Station
A blaze erupted on the night of 14 to 15 August when the fire department was called to a fire at the Lipiany police station in Pyrzyce County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship. According to TVP3 Szczecin, the fire consumed a patrol van parked in the station’s parking lot. The vehicle was completely destroyed and the façade of the building suffered damage. No one was injured, but the losses were considered “significant.” The prosecutor’s office has been involved in the investigation.
33‑Year‑Old Arrested
The following morning, police detained a 33‑year‑old woman who, according to investigators, may be linked to the night‑time arson. She is a resident of Lipiany. Witnesses cited by TVP3 Szczecin say the woman was agitated during the arrest and did not comply with officers’ instructions. Two medical rescue teams were dispatched. Authorities confirmed the suspect’s arrest. She was formally charged on Saturday morning and will spend the next three months in custody. She faces up to ten years in prison for attempted arson, assault on officials, and violation of official duties. Igryfino.pl reports that she allegedly set fire to the patrol van in retaliation for police arresting her partner the day before, who was suspected of setting fire to a barn in Batów.
Mayor Responds
Mayor Bartłomiej Królikowski spoke publicly about the incident. He said he remains in contact with colleagues and the chief of Lipiany police. “The brazenness of the person who committed this scandalous act exceeds the imagination of a normal person,” he wrote. “I believe the individual responsible for this outrageous crime, which not only damages public property but also severely jeopardises the safety of Lipiany and Przelewice residents, will be punished harshly.” He added that he intends to support the Lipiany police in restoring the unit’s operations as quickly as possible.
