Ukrainian Frontline Victory: Six Towns Reclaimed, Russian Forces Suffer Heavy Losses

Ukraine Reclaims Six Settlements Held by Russian Forces

In the Donetsk region, Ukraine’s army has regained control of six villages that had been occupied by Russian forces. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that these settlements were seized between August 4 and August 16.

Russian casualties were reported at 910 killed, 335 wounded, and 37 captured. Ukrainian troops also destroyed or damaged eight tanks, six armored personnel carriers, and 18 artillery pieces.

Ukrainian officials claim the situation near Dobropole, where Russians briefly breached defensive lines days ago, remains stable. Forces continue to advance toward Jabłuniwka in the Sumy region.

President Zelensky Heads to Washington for Talks

President Zelensky is preparing for meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 18 in Washington. Reports suggest that on Friday, August 22, a meeting could also take place between Zelensky, Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Washington agenda focuses on preparing for potential trilateral ceasefire talks. President Trump announced the initiative during the summit in Alaska and confirmed it in a phone call with Zelensky. Whether the meeting happens remains uncertain, as the Kremlin has stayed silent.

During his Washington visit, Zelensky plans to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. The United States aims to provide such guarantees, and European states have joined the Washington initiative.
