During the Christmas, New Year and Three Kings holidays, Warsaw’s transit system follows a special timetable. School and university routes are suspended, many bus and tram lines are shortened, canceled, or run less frequently, and the metro operates on a continuous night schedule on New Year’s Eve.
School and University Route Suspension
From December 22 to January 6, all routes marked as “school” or “university” are not run. Numerous bus lines reduce their frequency, some are fully suspended, and selected routes are altered to maintain essential city connections.
Weekday and Weekend Adjustments
On Monday and Tuesday (Dec 22‑23), buses operate as on regular weekdays but with early restrictions: selected lines do not run and school‑area routes are canceled. Trams and the metro switch to a reduced weekday timetable. Saturday and Sunday schedules apply from December 27‑28 and January 3‑4, with certain lines remaining suspended and trams running at lower frequency.
Christmas and New Year’s Operations
On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the 26th, the transit network follows Sunday schedules: fewer trams operate, several lines are suspended, and some routes are shortened. The metro follows a special holiday timetable. On New Year’s Eve (Dec 31 → Jan 1), the metro runs nonstop, easing return travel from city events.
Post-Christmas and Early January Schedule Changes
January 2 and 5—days before the Three Kings festival—most daytime lines run like on a Saturday. A few bus routes receive extra special schedules, while many connections are altogether suspended.
