Trams Return to Rakowicka, Line 19 Reopens in Mokotów

Trams will resume service on Rakowicka Street in Mokotów on December 22, following nearly 60 years of absence, as line 19 runs from Stegien via Mokotów to Piaski, with convenient transfers at Pole Mokotowskie metro.

Line 19 Service Restarts on Rakowicka

From December 22, tram line 19 will operate on Rakowicka Street, a route that has not been served by trams for almost six decades. The line will run from Stegien through Mokotów to Piaski, offering a direct path to the Pole Mokotowskie metro station, SGH university, and Mokotów district office.

New Green Track and Infrastructure

A 900‑metre section of track has been built between Puławska and Niepodległości Avenue, featuring a green track bed planted with vegetation. The new section runs alongside existing roadways, with traffic adjustments, road reconstruction near Niepodległości Avenue, and improved pedestrian crossings including raised intersections.

The investment, costing tens of millions of zlotys, is part of a broader project worth over 2 billion zlotys aimed at improving tram infrastructure toward Wilanów.

Special Tram Line for Historic Vehicles

On the opening day special heritage trams will operate a temporary line between Narutowicza square and Rakowicka. The historic fleet will traverse the route through Filtrowa, Nowowierska, Marszałkowska and Puławska streets, symbolising the tram’s return after decades of absence.

Environmental Enhancements Aimed at Sustainability

The green track, bordered by newly sown trees and shrubs along the street, will be maintained until spring 2026. These measures reduce noise, improve runoff handling, and enhance overall environmental quality.

Historical Context of Rakowicka Tram Lines

Tram tracks on Rakowicka existed from 1927 to 1967. The current reopening moves away from the former policy of line elimination, reinforcing rail transport as a cornerstone for densely populated districts and offering residents quicker journeys and seamless transfers to the Pole Mokotowskie metro.
