Lesser Poland: 38‑Year‑Old Pregnant Driver Hits Pole Under Influence, Endangering Child

In Jawiszowice (Lesser Poland), a 38‑year‑old pregnant woman, carrying her two‑year‑old daughter, crashed an Opel into a telecommunications pole while under the influence of alcohol.

Dangerous Incident in Lesser Poland

On Saturday, August 16, after 4 p.m., a road incident occurred on Przeczna Street in the village of Jawiszowice, Oświęcim County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The woman driving an Opel veered off the roadway and collided with a telecommunications pole, breaking it and causing it to fall to the ground. A teacher from Brzeszcze witnessed the incident, called the authorities, and administered first aid to those involved.

38‑Year‑Old Under Alcohol Influence

Medical rescue teams and police officers intervened at the scene. Officers identified the driver as a 38‑year‑old resident of Brzeszcze. A sobriety test showed two promilles of alcohol in her blood. It also became apparent that she was pregnant. In addition to her, her two‑year‑old daughter was present in the vehicle. Both the woman and her child were placed under the care of rescuers and transported to a hospital for examination.

Driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated carries a penalty of up to three years imprisonment, a minimum three‑year driving ban, and vehicle forfeiture if the sobriety test shows at least 1.5 promilles. The 38‑year‑old may also face charges for endangering the life or health of a minor under her care, punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
