Poland’s Representative at Washington Talks: President’s Spokesperson Takes the Stage

President Karol Nawrocki’s press spokesman, Rafał Leśkiewicz, was asked who will represent Poland at Monday’s talks in the United States. Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenski and several European leaders are set to fly to Washington.

Who will Represent Poland in Washington?

The Polish Press Agency stated that within the next few hours it will become clear who will represent Poland at Monday’s meeting in Washington. This information was provided by President of the Republic of Poland’s press spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz. When asked by journalists about who will represent Poland during the Monday talks, he emphasized that the decision on this matter has not yet been made. He said that whether someone from the presidential office, the president himself, or one of the ministers will go to Washington would be revealed within the next few hours.

The Summit in the USA

On Monday, August 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski will discuss in Washington with US President Donald Trump the details of a three‑party meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Among others, the United States will receive visits from EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Sources in Washington suggested that the three‑party summit could take place on Friday, August 22. The Kremlin has so far not commented on these reports.

Preparations for Talks on Ukraine

On Sunday before 5 p.m., a coalition of supporters for Ukraine concluded a meeting before the Washington talks. “I emphasized that to achieve peace, pressure must be put on the aggressor, not the victim of aggression,” the Polish participant and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski wrote on social media.

Europe will support Kyiv as long as necessary to achieve a just and lasting peace. The same day, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made a declaration before the Washington meeting. She met with Zelenski in Brussels and stressed that Ukraine must retain the security guarantees from Trump.
