A head‑on collision between two Warsaw Suburban Railway trains at the terminus station Warszawa Śródmieście at about 18:05 left two people hospitalized and caused major disruptions.
Collision of WKD trains at the terminus station
An accident occurred around 18:05 at Warszawa Śródmieście WKD, the terminus of Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa. The carrier announced that trains 230 and 1105 collided, with one train striking the other set that was stationary at the platform. The station was completely blocked until the damaged sets could be removed.
Persons injured
According to a reporter from tvnwarszawa.pl, the collision took place at a point where the sets use a turnout and reverse. Two people were transported to hospital; another two received first aid on the spot. Preliminary indications suggest the cause may be a turnout fault or human error.
Police: drivers sober
The police confirmed the information about the injured. They received the report at 18:00, describing a train striking another while departing from WKD Warszawa Śródmieście. Two passengers of one of the trains were taken to hospital. The drivers of both sets are sober, the Capital Police Command’s press officer Bartłomiej Śniadała said, and officers will investigate the exact causes.
Serious disruptions in WKD operations
Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa notified that until the emergency removal of damaged sets is completed, track number 2—the right track towards Warsaw on the Komorów – Warszawa Śródmieście segment—has been closed. Trains from Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Milanówka will be rerouted and turned back at Komorów toward Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Komorów. The carrier says the duration of the disruptions is unknown and will provide updates as the technical rescue operation progresses.
