Rescue Operation at Pniówek Mine; Two Miners Missing

A rock and gas ejection in the Pniówek coal mine left ten miners underground, eight safely evacuated but two uncontactable, prompting an urgent rescue operation.

Incident Details

On the N‑9 shaft at 830 m below surface, a rock and gas blast in the Pniówek coal mine caused a sudden evacuation. The national WZZ Commission “August 80” reported the event, and a spokesperson for Jastrzębska Coal Company confirmed that contact with two miners was lost. Ten workers were working when the blast struck; eight were successfully evacuated.

Rescue Teams on Scene

Two professional squads from the Central Mine Rescue Station in Bytom, and rescuers from the Wodzisław Śląski branch, have joined the operation. A team of two doctors and a thermometer, along with psychological support services, has also been dispatched to the site.
