Drunken Doctor Found in Lublin Hospital, Anonymous Call Sparks Investigation

Police in Lublin received an anonymous 6 p.m. report on Dec. 21 that an on‑call emergency‑room physician was intoxicated, prompting an immediate blood‑alcohol test that revealed 3 promille.

Police Test Doctor

On Sunday, 21 December, the Opole Lubelskie County Police received an anonymous call around 18:00 reporting an on‑call physician at the Poniatowa hospital may be under the influence of alcohol.

Officers arrived and performed a sobriety test, finding the doctor had 3 promille of alcohol in his system.

The police are now determining whether the physician provided assistance to patients or exposed them to health risks while on duty.

Hospital Responds

The board of the Opole Lubelskie County Health Center informed an online portal that patients were immediately secured and none suffered any health harm.

The doctor was promptly removed from duty and his contract was terminated with immediate effect.

In a statement, the board expressed regret over the situation and reiterated that safety, health, and comfort of patients are their highest priority.
