Hołownia Logs Out of Poland 2050 Meetings After Votes Don’t Go His Way

Szymon Hołownia abruptly ended Poland 2050’s National Council meeting as votes went against his proposals, sparking controversy within the party.

National Council Meetings Suspended

The National Council of Poland 2050 announced a break in meetings until Monday at 6:00 PM, announced by MP Marcin Skonieczka. On Friday’s Council meeting, 7 out of 11 agenda items were addressed, including elections to the National Electoral Commission and National Audit Commission. The National Council will handle protests regarding the party chairman election. According to TVN24+ journalist Patryk Michalski, Friday’s Council meetings ended in “a stormy atmosphere.”

“Emotional Blackmail” by Former Marshal

The National Council was deciding on Friday evening what to do with the invalidated party chairman elections. Their second round was canceled due to a technical error. Party leadership must decide whether to hold elections from scratch or only repeat the second round. Hołownia initially declared support for repeating all elections and willingness to run again. He reportedly wanted Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska in the board, suggesting he would leave if they weren’t included – a move some called “emotional blackmail.”

Hołownia “Logged Out of Meetings”

Szymon Hołownia logged out after 11 PM, citing fatigue, according to party sources. He transferred leadership to Agnieszka Buczyńska, who announced the break and also logged out. Some politicians question the legality of the break, noting earlier requests regarding the board’s term weren’t considered. TVN24 reports that Hołownia’s action effectively ended the meeting after realizing votes weren’t going his way.

“Within the Valid Regulations”

Buczyńska published a statement on X asserting the break was legal under the National Council Regulations, paragraph 12, which allows the Chairman to transfer meeting leadership and announce breaks at any time. She emphasized the break was “within the limits of applicable regulations and was a fully authorized, rational and responsible action.”

Elections in Poland 2050

The invalidated second round pitted Minister of Funds Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz against Minister of Climate Paulina Hennig-Kloska. The voting was canceled due to a technical error preventing vote counting. Party authorities suspect external interference and have filed a report with the prosecutor’s office and ABW.
