Polish opposition party KO proposes legislation to ban social media use for those under 15, citing Australia’s similar restrictions as a model.
Parliamentary Project Initiated
The initiators of the parliamentary project are former education minister Roman Giertych, current head of the department Barbara Nowacka and chair of the parliamentary commission for children and youth Monika Rosa.
International Precedent
The legislation is to be based on solutions implemented in Australia, where age restrictions for social media users have been in force since December. Similar initiatives have already been announced by the authorities of France and Denmark.
Health and Safety Concerns
Parental responsibility is important but insufficient, according to Monika Rosa. She argues that just as we demand safety and clear food composition, we must also require that products offered by major technology companies be safe.
Regulatory Approach
Rosa states that alongside regulations such as DSA, the introduction of a real age limit for access is one of the key tools for effective prevention of children’s health issues.
