Drunk BMW Driver Rams Car with Mother and Children, Attempts Foot Escape, Caught by Witnesses

A drunk BMW driver caused a collision in Warsaw’s Targówek district, ramming a car with a mother and two children before attempting to flee on foot and being caught.

Collision and Arrest

On Sunday, January 18, 2026, police received a report about a BMW driver whose driving style raised suspicions among other road users that he might be driving under the influence of alcohol. Two drivers were following the vehicle, maintaining contact with authorities and continuously transmitting its position to help patrols locate and stop the car.

Before police could stop the BMW, a collision occurred at the roundabout on Głębocka Street – before the overpass over the S8 expressway, on the Targówek side. The BMW driver drove into the back of a car carrying a mother with two children. A medical rescue team was called to the scene, but after checking the condition of those involved, there was no need to transport anyone to the hospital.

After the collision, the BMW driver attempted to escape on foot from the scene. However, he was detained by witnesses and police officers. According to information provided, tests showed he had 1.2 permille of alcohol in his breath.

Previous Violations

It was established that the man was driving despite a driving ban imposed on him in 2025. Additionally, he was wanted by the prosecutor’s office in Kozienice to determine his place of residence.

Investigation Underway

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, proceedings are being conducted with the man at the prosecutor’s office, and police are requesting that he be placed in temporary detention.
