Power of Attorney Rules in Cooperatives to Change. Some Seniors Will Lose Voice in Leadership Elections

Starting January 28, new rules for power of attorney in Polish cooperatives will take effect, aiming to eliminate voting manipulation but potentially disenfranchising many senior members.

New Power of Attorney Rules Take Effect

Starting January 28, rules for granting power of attorney by cooperative members (natural persons) to attend general meetings will change. This applies when members cannot attend meetings in person.

Government Aims to Eliminate Voting Manipulation

The government, which authored the amendment, wants to eliminate emerging practices of buying power of attorney documents and forging them to control voting at general meetings.

Rules Spark Controversy Among Senior Members

The new rules have been accompanied by significant emotions from the beginning. On one hand, they are intended to limit abuses, but on the other hand, they take away the right to vote from many seniors, who are among the most active members at general meetings.

Not All Members Can Appoint Representatives

In addition, it will not always be possible to appoint a representative, which also causes dissatisfaction.
