Two Scenarios for Poland 2050
According to Newsweek’s Dominika Długosz, two scenarios are currently being considered for Poland 2050. One scenario involves creating a coalition with PiS and Konfederacja, which would give Szymon Hołownia’s party the position of Prime Minister, potentially for Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.
In Parliament, different versions are circulating about what Hołownia wants and where his limits are, with reports suggesting he wants to overthrow the current government and become the figure with whom Donald Tusk must negotiate.
Leaked Messages Spark Controversy
Last week, TVN24 journalists revealed fragments of a discussion where Poland 2050 politicians considered a “return/coup” action and delaying the vote. Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska allegedly wrote about an “action return/coup” in an internal discussion, expressing frustration with friendly media and mentioning showing “balls” after changing the management board.
She reportedly asked if elections couldn’t be moved to a saint’s day or if all the wonderful candidates fighting each other could be “knocked down.” The leaked messages have sparked controversy within the party.
Leadership Election Set for Saturday
On the coming Saturday, January 31, a new chairperson for Poland 2050 is set to be elected in a second round between Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Paulina Hennig-Kloska. The previous voting was canceled due to a system error.
Both candidates expressed hope for party unity after the elections. Minister of Climate explained that the new chairperson would need to reconcile the conflicting factions. Szymon Hołownia did not rule out leaving the party with a group of several MPs, suggesting that to prevent a split, either the entire election procedure should be repeated or both candidates should be appointed as co-chairs.
