PKP Intercity Restores Croatia Routes with New Bus Links to Trieste

PKP Intercity resumes summer train service from Poland to Croatia’s Rijeka and Koper, with new bus connections to Trieste from late June to August.

Expanded Train Service to Croatia

According to Rynek Kolejowy, PKP Intercity’s plans for the summer season include the return of the train to Croatia, with the offer being expanded. In Ljubljana, the train will be divided into carriages for Koper and Rijeka. There will also be the possibility to purchase a combined ticket for a bus from Ljubljana to Trieste, announced Janusz Malinowski, president of the board of PKP Intercity.

Increased Frequency and Dining Options

Malinowski added that the train will run 6 times a week instead of 4. Rynek Kolejowy notes that the Polish restaurant car will still only travel to and from Vienna. Passengers will need to bring their own food for the further part of the journey.

Summer Schedule and Travel Time Improvements

The connection will be operated from the end of June to the end of August, and railway officials assure that they are looking for ways to shorten travel time. Malinowski explains that their schedulers are working on this, and it remains the biggest challenge on this route due to ongoing major modernization work on railway infrastructure in Slovenia.

Bus Connections and Ticket Prices

Malinowski stated that they will reach Ljubljana with one train set, and then there will be a group of carriages to Koper and Rijeka. Regarding buses to Trieste, they will cooperate with a local carrier. He also added that ticket prices will not differ from last year, when almost all seats on this route were sold.
