Legia Warsaw Club Store Becomes Crime Scene: 49‑Year‑Old Fan Attacked Ahead of Europa League Match

At Legia Warsaw’s souvenir shop on Łazienkowska Street, a 49‑year‑old man was attacked just before the club’s Europa League match against AEK Larnaca. Police confirmed the incident and began a full investigation while the club cooperated with authorities.

Witness Account

A spectator reported that the confrontation began when a man in a red jersey of another team entered the shop and was met with chants and demands to remove his shirt. According to the witness, several assailants then forced the victim to the ground and beat him on the head, tearing his jersey in the process. The incident lasted several minutes.

Victim’s Perspective

The victim, who later approached the newsroom of tvnwarszawa.pl, explained that he was wearing a Wisła Kraków shirt and had come to the shop to purchase Legia colours before entering the stands. He said that the first beating occurred outside the shop, and when he entered, four men burst in, repeatedly striking him on the head and ripping his shirt. He received medical assistance on the spot.

Police Statement

Junior Police Officer Jakub Pacyniak confirmed that a 49‑year‑old was attacked inside the shop. Officers on scene intervened, assisted the victim, collected evidence, and recorded documentation. The man suffered only minor injuries and was not hospitalized. A report has been filed; the investigation into the sequence of events and motives is ongoing, with no arrests made to date.

Legia Warsaw’s Response

The club announced that it had immediately notified the police and has been fully cooperating with the investigation. No further comments will be made until the case is resolved.

Context

The attack took place on the day of the club’s return match in the third round of the Europa League qualifiers. While the incident was unrelated to the match itself, it occurred in front of a large group of supporters outside the venue before the first whistle.
