Multiple Explosions Rock Iran, Including Fatal Gas Blasts

Explosions in Iranian Cities

On Saturday, January 31, several explosions occurred in Iran. Explosions were reported in the cities of Bandar-Abbas, Ahwaz, Karaj and in the Parand district of Tehran. At least five people died.

Gas Explosion in Ahwaz

Local media reported that a gas explosion occurred in a residential building in Ahwaz. The head of the local fire department said that a four-person family died – father, mother and two children. Meanwhile, in an explosion that destroyed part of a building in Bandar-Abbas, a four-year-old girl died, and several people were injured.

Iranian Military Denies Commander’s Death

After the explosion in Bandar-Abbas, information appeared that the target of the attack was the headquarters of the Iranian navy. The commander of the navy, General Alireza Tangsiri, was reportedly killed. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps denied these reports.

Israeli Officials Comment

Two Israeli officials told Reuters that Israel is not behind the explosions in Iran. An N12 News informant also stated that neither Israel nor the United States is currently conducting any operations in the region, and the explosions were probably caused by an “internal incident”.
