Russians Deploy ‘Penguin’ to Frontline; Ukrainians Release Footage

Ukrainian forces released footage showing a Russian soldier in penguin-like camouflage eliminated by drone on snowy terrain.

Ukrainian Forces Publish Frontline Footage

On Monday, January 26, the 120th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a video on Facebook. It depicts a person in a suit resembling a penguin on a snow-covered area. Ukrainian forces stated it was a Russian soldier using camouflage. They spotted him and deployed a drone that eliminated the soldier, with the explosion recorded on video.

Ineffective Camouflage

The Ukrainian military reported that at least two Russian soldiers using this type of camouflage were eliminated at the end of January. The exact location was not disclosed, only that operations occurred on snowy terrain. Ukrainians noted the Russian suits were ineffective camouflage, as the soldiers wearing them stood out against the open landscape.

Battlefield Test Subjects

According to Defence Blog, Russians frequently test new, experimental equipment and tactics directly on the battlefield. The Ukrainian military views the use of penguin-like suits as fitting this pattern, suggesting Russian soldiers are treated as test subjects under actual combat conditions.
